The Issue

Every day at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, staff face a relentless struggle to secure parking. This daily hassle not only affects employees like me but also patients trying to find accessible spaces for crucial medical appointments. The stress of circling the car parks, hoping for a spot, regularly makes staff late to work and detracts from our ability to focus on providing the highest standard of care and service to the people who need us.

Ninewells Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Scotland, yet our parking facilities are insufficient for the volume of staff and patients it serves. The current barriers on 2 of these staff car parks severely limit access, restricting staff from using these areas beyond regular hours. These barriered car parks sit with hundreds of spaces not in use every day, whilst those who don't have access to these car parks have to sit for long periods in ques to await spaces to become available.  This inadequacy highlights an urgent need to reevaluate and repurpose these barriered staff car parks into 24-hour spaces accessible to all employees. It's an actionable and realistic solution that can drastically relieve the parking pressure on staff and on patients who rely on our healthcare services.

Transforming these spaces into 24-hour accessible car parks will provide numerous benefits. It will alleviate  the parking struggle for many healthcare workers and enable us to arrive at work stress-free, thereby improving our overall productivity and capacity to deliver quality care. Furthermore, it allows patients and visitors easier access to appointments, significantly enhancing their experience at our facilities.

The logistics of making these changes are feasible. By removing the existing barriers, Ninewells Hospital can immediately benefit from an increase in available parking spaces that serve our dedicated staff round-the-clock. This modification reflects a commitment to not only the staff but also to the patients who depend on us.

Join us in urging the hospital administration to remove the barriered staff car parks and change them to 24 hour parking, available to everyone. Let's ensure that all Ninewells Hospital employees and the patients we serve have the access we need to car parking facilities at any time of day. Please sign this petition to support this necessary change.
