Convert Loading Only Bays to Free 20-Minute Parking on Worcester Street

The Issue

My Post Office in Worcester Street, Wolverhampton, was once a bustling area now fallen on hard times. For years now, businesses here have been battling one ordeal after another. First, the markets, which were the heart and soul of our small community, were uprooted. Then came the devastating blow of the Covid-19 pandemic, which pushed our already struggling businesses closer to the brink. Promises of city centre developments were made, with hopes of rekindling footfall, but those promises were empty, leaving many businesses to wither and die. The businesses that have managed to survive are barely hanging on, and they need your help.

The majority of potential customers are deterred by the lack of parking facilities, resulting in them choosing convenience over supporting local businesses. The threat of parking fines, due to the current loading only regulations, drives away many who might have become fond regulars, leading to decreasing footfall and lower sales for businesses. A simple solution, which would make a significant difference, is to change the current loading-only parking bays to 20-minute free parking spots.

This small alteration would not just allow customers easy access to our local businesses, but also breathe new life into this forgotten part of the city centre. It would send a message that Wolverhampton cares about its local businesses and residents' convenience.

We ask the Wolverhampton City Council to acknowledge this dire situation and to take this small yet pivotal step towards revitalising Worcester Street. Every signature on this petition will signify someone standing in solidarity with our businesses, our community and our city. Please, sign this petition and help us transform Worcester Street.
