Like tens of thousands of people living in Montgomery County, I have a daily commute via southbound I-45. This commute has become increasingly difficult and time-consuming due to traffic, especially given the recent population growth in our area. Every day, we lose valuable time stuck in traffic when there's an obvious and easy solution within our reach.

The left shoulder of I-45 southbound stretching several miles starting from exit 85 is wide enough to be converted into a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. We've observed that once this shoulder turns into an HOV lane further down the road, the traffic significantly dissolves. The infrastructure is already there; it just needs some minimal work to convert this shoulder into an operational HOV lane.

This simple change could save tens of thousands of commuters precious time every day. 10 minutes/day translates into 40 hours of wasted time per person per year!

We urge the Texas Department of Transportation to consider this proposal seriously for implementation as soon as possible.
