Help Get Justice for Tyrell Wilson

The Issue

Tyrell Wilson, who recently turned 33, had been staying peacefully in the Danville, California Park & Ride for several months. He was a young black man with a history of mental health struggles who preferred to keep to himself. In the middle of the day on March 11th, 2021 the Danville Police responded to reports of someone throwing rocks off an overpass near the Park & Ride. Tyrell was walking nearby with a shopping bag, when Danville Police Officer Andrew Hall approached him for questioning. The situation escalated (details are not being released) and Tyrell produced a small knife. Instead of de-escalating the situation, or employing less lethal means, Andrew Hall shot Tyrell Wilson in the middle of a broad suburban intersection. Tyrell Wilson died in the hospital on March 13th as a direct result of his injuries.

This is not the first time Andrew Hall has shot a marginalized person in Danville. Just 2.5 years ago, in November of 2018, Hall shot and killed Filipino-American Laudemer Arboleda who was also suffering a mental health crisis at the time. His family is still in mourning and still fighting for justice. Now another family, that of Tyrell Wilson, joins them in processing the violent and unnecessary loss of a loved one.

Help us demand:

1.  The immediate release of all body camera and traffic intersection footage of the March 11th incident.

2.  For Andrew Hall to be fired by the Contra Costa County Sheriff, who staffs the Danville Police Department.

3.  A transparent investigation into this shooting and for the Office of the Attorney General to step in as they are allowed to do under California AB-1506 (2019-2020).

4.  An official apology and payment of damages to the families of Tyrell Wilson and Laudemer Arboleda.

Please support these families and this community in holding the police accountable. Together we can help get justice for Tyrell Wilson and Laudemer Arboleda. Thank you for your support and feel free to write local representatives to further this cause!
