The Issue

For more than two decades, our school district has upheld a cherished tradition: granting senior privilege for high school seniors in good academic standing and those who are enrolled in courses at Lehigh County Community College (LCCC) or have a job. These seniors have completed all of their required classes to graduate. This privilege has not merely been a token of recognition but a stimulation for academic excellence and a rite of passage for countless seniors in our district.

Imagine dedicating three years of your high school life meticulously working towards a goal, consistently maintaining good academic standing, and looking forward to that moment of recognition in your senior year, only to have it possibly taken away. That's the reality facing the juniors at our high school.

These juniors, soon to be seniors, have diligently worked since their freshman year aiming for this well-deserved senior privilege. They were guided and encouraged by the school's academic framework to strive for excellence with this reward in sight. It is more than symbolic; it is a testament to their dedication, effort, and perseverance. Now they want to have them take up to 3 additional and  unnecessary classes when they have already fulfilled their PA graduation requirements. When, for over 20 years they were given the privilege of taking their remaining required classes, then leave early to work, complete an internship, or work on their college coursework.

The continuation of this privilege is vital for motivating students who see it as a tangible recognition of their hard work. Colleges and future employers recognize the significance of such achievements and they serve as important milestones in a student's academic journey.

We urge the school administration to uphold this valuable tradition that benefits not just the individual students but the academic culture as a whole. Denying these seniors this privilege feels like a breach of the trust and encouragement that was given to them throughout their schooling. Let us not undermine the aspirations they've worked tirelessly to achieve.

By signing this petition, you are standing with these dedicated students and ensuring that they receive the recognition they have tirelessly worked for. Encourage our educational leaders to continue honoring those who strive for excellence and maintain this meaningful tradition. Please sign and share this petition with others who believe in maintaining fairness and reward for academic dedication.
