Construct the Promised Heritage Greenway linking Caddington and Slip End

The Issue

As residents of Caddington Woods, Caddington and Slip End we have long been promised a safe and convenient way to travel between our homes and neighbours. The proposed Heritage Greenway, linking Caddington Woods, Caddington, Slip End and Markyate was supposed to provide this solution. This pathway would allow us to cycle, walk or use mobility scooters safely - an essential piece of infrastructure for our community that has yet to be realized.

the Road between Caddington Woods and Caddington village is extremely dangerous. The rural rights of way are an unkempt muddy mess all year round.

Years have passed since the promise of the Heritage Greenway was made. It is even included in our local area plan. Yet construction has not begun, leaving us without a safe route for travel within our own community.

The lack of progress on this project affects not only those who wish to cycle or walk but also those who rely on mobility scooters for their daily transportation needs. Without the Heritage Greenway, these individuals are left with no safe options.

We call upon local authority and developers to uphold their promises and begin construction on the Heritage Greenway as soon as possible. The safety and convenience of our community depend on it.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer routes for all residents within our communities.

We demand that Central Bedfordshire Council action this as a matter of urgency. And call upon Defra to step in if progress cannot be made.

The heritage greenway must be of sufficient quality for it to be available for use all year round to all abilities and levels of mobility. Level 1 hard surfaces are already in place between hatters way and Caddington Woods. The Alban Way greenway in St Albans is a level 1 for most of its 5 miles. Neighbouring Greenways in Hertfordshire including Ayot Greenway, The Nickey Line and Cole Green Way have seen much of their surface upgraded from level 3 to level 2 surfacing in the last 2 years.
