The People of Harpenden, Redbourn and Hemel Hempstead are lucky to have the Nickey Line. It is a 7 1/2 mile heritage greenway. When it was built originally as a railway in 1877 there were lots of issues and difficulties over the land and the route. But these were worked out in a shorter space of time than it has taken for any progress to connect the residents of Caddington. A safe, green traffic free shared walkway cannot be too much to ask. What I experienced today on my ride to Hemel was 7 miles of no traffic. A safe corridor, with rural farming activities taking place either side of the path undisturbed.

The Farmer who objected to the local plan and the path orders has recently harvested the wheat in his field. How would a safe pathway that is in the local plan obstruct this activity? There was no wheat growing and no bales stored on any of the areas affected by the proposed path? How can the value of the land be in question when a community of 325 households are isolated and cut off? The compensation value should take account of the locality. And the existence of the cut off community of Caddington Woods. The only access road to the village is a carnival of speeding drivers. Too dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists and families to use. When a tragedy happens on this road, and it will. What then?

Please share this petition. Please keep signing. Send a clear message to the planning inspectorate that the objections to this greenway only reflect the interests of one individual who stands against the wishes and needs of his local community. The delay is shameful.
