We now know the basis on which two persons have officially objected to the construction of the Caddington Heritage Greenway. One from a local landowner and the other a local resident.
In short the issues are: Land compensation and fear of nuisance motorcyclists.
The police have initiated Operation Meteor, actively addressing the issue by seizing illegal vehicles. Caddington Woods is a vigilant community, always on the lookout. One concern is that illegal motorcyclists might use our neighborhood to avoid detection. However, the ever-watchful residents of Caddington Woods would make this a challenging endeavor for any would-be lawbreaker.
Other councils, including Dacorum, Welwyn Hatfield, East Herts, and St Albans, face similar issues. They have not abandoned their greenway projects but instead have upgraded them, recognizing their substantial value to the community.
Another objection relates to the compensation offered to a local landowner for the development. Residents who bought properties from Redrow, lured by the promise of a greenway, or those who have endured the inconvenience of its delay, have not asked for compensation. The cost of labour and materials has not decreased since 2018, meaning delays only increase financial burdens and frustration for us residents and taxpayers. It is remarkable that nearly a decade has passed without resolution. We can only hope that a fair compromise is reached soon.
The landowner objection trigged the referral of the path order to the Planning Inspectorate which delays confirmation of the project by at least 37 weeks. The local objector made their representation after the closing period but has submitted their views to the planning inspectorate.
I am reassured that the Council understands our frustrations and is as eager as we are to see the greenway developed.
I think that the size and nature of support for this petition will directly influence the decision making process at the Planning Inspectorate. It is your support that is making a difference.
Thank you.
