Construct a Skatepark in Amelia Earhart Park for East Hialeah's Safety

Construct a Skatepark in Amelia Earhart Park for East Hialeah's Safety
The Issue
I am a resident of East Hialeah, and like many others here, I am an avid skater. However, our passion comes with risks due to the lack of safe spaces for us to skate. Currently, there is only one skatepark located on the west side of Hialeah called Bucky Dent. This forces us on the east side to either travel far or risk our lives skating in areas with heavy traffic.
The absence of a skatepark in our area not only limits our ability to practice and enjoy skating but also exposes us to potential accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Florida has one of the highest rates of pedestrian fatalities in traffic accidents nationwide.
The benefits of a local skatepark extend beyond the skating community. Research indicates that skateparks lead to reduced youth crime rates, foster a sense of community among young people, and encourage physical activity. A study by the Tony Hawk Foundation found that skateparks are utilized as much as basketball courts and baseball fields, demonstrating their popularity and the pressing need for more facilities.
We urge local authorities and park management to consider this proposal seriously. A new skatepark will not just be an investment into recreational infrastructure but also an important step towards ensuring safety for skaters living on the east side of Hialeah.
Your signature on this petition is more than just ink on paper; it is a lifeline to a thriving, safer, and more inclusive community. Let's champion the cause for safe, accessible skating in East Hialeah. Please, sign and support our journey to bring a skatepark to Amelia Earhart Park.
