Construct a Live Retaining Wall to Preserve Marquette's Historic Residential Area

The Issue

I am a life long resident and home owner of a 120-year-old home in Marquette, MI, USA. My neighborhood is filled with houses just as old and rich in history. These homes are only 20 feet away from a bustling five-lane highway that has no weight restrictions for heavy equipment or vehicles. The constant noise, pollution, and construction are not only ruining the aesthetic appeal of our historic area but also posing serious threats to our environment.

Our ecosystem is suffering due to this unchecked development. The noise pollution disrupts the natural habits of local wildlife while air pollution threatens their health and survival rates. Our green spaces are shrinking at an alarming rate, leaving less room for birds and other wildlife to thrive.

The solution we propose is the construction of a live retaining wall between our historic residential area and the highway. This wall will not only reduce noise and air pollution but also provide more green space for our ecosystem to flourish again.

According to research conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), such green infrastructure can help improve air quality, reduce heat islands effect, create habitats for wildlife species, among other benefits (EPA). Furthermore, studies have shown that reducing exposure to traffic-related air pollution can lead to significant improvements in respiratory health among residents (American Lung Association).

This isn't just about preserving history; it's about safeguarding our future too. We need your support now more than ever before! Please sign this petition urging local authorities in Marquette MI USA to construct a live retaining wall between the historic residential area and highway 41 in south Marquette.
