As a regular traveler between Cumberland County and Kings County, I feel firsthand the toll lengthy trips have on time, fuel, and stress levels. Like many others, I journey this route every week to pick up my daughter in New Minas. The reality is, a bridge connecting our counties could potentially cut this travel time in half, providing us more quality time to spend with our families.

Such a bridge would not only benefit individual travellers like myself, but it could also help alleviate congestion on the overburdened highway system. More often, the route between Cumberland County and Kings County is shrouded in bumper-to-bumper traffic, causing unnecessary delays and increasing the risk of accidents.

Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal's statistics show that over 15,000 vehicles use our major highways every day. Construction of a bridge between these counties could disperse traffic, making it more bearable for everyone on the road (Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, 2020).

For the sake of families, for the sake of drivers, and for the sake of our environment – reduced travel times mean lower fuel consumption and less carbon emission – we must urge our local government to seriously consider the construction of a bridge linking Cumberland County to Kings County.
