As a Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG), my journey to practicing medicine in India hinges on passing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). This highly competitive exam, conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), is our gateway to officially practicing in the country. However, recent issues have cast doubt on the fairness and accuracy of scoring.

Numerous candidates, including myself, have raised concerns about certain questions in the recent FMGE. Reports suggest that some questions were technically incorrect, ambiguous, or affected by discrepancies. These issues have placed countless potential doctors, dedicated to contributing to India’s healthcare, in jeopardy.

The stakes are incredibly high. For many of us, passing the FMGE is more than just a step in our careers; it is a realization of a dream to serve society in a meaningful way. However, when exam scoring is flawed, it undermines the fairness and transparency that should be the hallmark of any testing system.

Therefore, I urge the NBE and relevant authorities to consider allotting grace marks for questions verified to be problematic. This ensures every candidate faces a level playing field. If an official review finds any question to be erroneous or misleading, the impacted candidates should receive appropriate marks.

In other competitive examinations, including domestic ones, grace marks have been awarded in the face of ambiguous questions or technical errors. Thus, it stands to reason that the same consideration be extended to those appearing for the FMGE.

Let's ensure that the future healthcare providers of India receive a fair assessment, enabling them to continue their journey of healing and contribution to society. I genuinely believe that rectifying these issues will restore faith in the process and uphold the integrity of the FMGE.
