Restore Normalcy and Life At Connecticut College with a 99% Vaccination Rate
Fall sports teams at Connecticut College were just told we can not practice with our full team and our games this weekend postponed. There is an outbreak on our campus, but field hockey and men's and women's soccer have 0 positive cases. We all have received two negative tests, and are not allowed on our turf. Despite CDC and federal guidelines stating you need one negative test and a mask to resume your life.
I would like to call on the leaders of this college to look at every other academic institution in this nation. We students here at Conn, can go on Snapchat or Instagram any time of the day and see our friends at tailgates, full capacity sporting events, in-person classes - all while their campuses have Covid.
Of course, we have to isolate students who test positive, but you are putting almost 2000 lives on hold. This past week we were all put essentially into quarantine although the college protocols clearly state that vaccinated students who do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine.
Classes in person canceled. Practices canceled. Games canceled. Activities canceled. Grab and Go food. Life canceled.
This is not our "Path Forward."
Let us play.
