Conjugal Visits In The UK

The Issue

Being apart from a partner who is incarcerated can be very difficult. not simply for sexual purposes, contrary to what most people believe, but also for the intimacy, affection, and intimidation. I think that if a prisoner is able to keep up a good relationship with their partner, they will feel like there is some stability when they get home, which will motivate them to work harder. This is crucial and a major contributor to the durability of a relationship, especially for women who may not have started or finished their families. The term "broken family" might be less common if this was made available to people who are married or in committed relationships because these links would be strengthened by this degree of intimacy. When this social stigma can be eliminated by permitting conjugal visits, it is illogical to put the partner in the community in the situation of having to decide if their family is complete or find a new spouse to have children with. Even if going to prison may be a punishment for some, the other person in the relationship is also receiving a penalty when intimacy or feeling close to your partner is prohibited. According to reports, 70% of prisoners experience mental health problems, Intimacy provides ongoing comfort that no one is alone and helps couples to survive even the most difficult situations. Although the feel-good hormones and chemicals released during sex cannot permanently treat mental diseases, they can temporarily lessen their symptoms. this includes the feel-good chemicals dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin that also improve compassion.

Everyone is not perfect, but isn't it worth a try to give these prisoners a say and give them a chance to become better beings and have a family and something to look forward to that will keep them out of trouble? Prisoners in the UK speak, but they are not heard because their opinions are seen as worthless and do not matter. All I am asking is that you please listen to these prisoners needs and understand them mentally, emotionally, and physically. So if you could please join this petition with me and spread the word to your relatives and friends. This may not seem important to some, but consider all the innocent people who simply want to build a relationship with their partners and be intimate with them without feeling awkward or on mute while ignoring the prisoners' and spouses' feelings and mental health because everyone is affected, not just one.
