Stop the environmental devastation caused by the dredging of the Sandy Hook channel
The Issue
The annual dredging of the Sandy Hook Channel causes environmental devastation to the waters off of New Jersey and New York. Dredging and the material which it releases creates sediment in the water column. These sediments cause turbid plumes that negatively impact marine habitats. Marine life at all levels are dramatically impacted by this needless, costly and unsafe practice. It leads to a tremendous decline in fisheries as well as economic damage to those who depend on the fisheries to make a living. Dredging also spreads pollution, effecting recreational beach goers and people who consume seafood from these waters. Creating man-made barriers and other alternatives would be a far cheaper and environmentally sound solution. Please join me by asking our local officials to STOP THE DREDGING NOW!
