Friends,
I have bad news and good news.
The bad is that this morning we saw that the federal budget text released by Congress still contains the nearly 20-year old language effectively banning federal gun research.
The good news it that today, Rep. Elizabeth Esty, Vice Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, offered an amendment to the House Rules Committee to strike the federal ban on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) research into gun violence.
You can help right now by sending a tweet to the House Rules Committee to let them know you support this amendment. Just click here: http://bit.ly/1RSNRZl
Tomorrow, give a quick call to your members of Congress, too, and let them know that you won't back down.
With your support, I'm going to continue working with organizations like Doctors for America and leaders like Rep. Esty to make sure that we get this ban lifted in 2016.
It is possible and we're closer than we've been in a very long time.
Thank you,
Sarah
