Secure Internet Voting System

The Issue

In recent decades the US public has been made acutely aware of deficiencies in our electoral processes. Paper ballots, mail in ballots, electronic voting machine issues, the lengthy amount of time needed to vote in person, all task the faith we citizens have in the process. Further, distrust in the results occurs when recounts and audits are necessary.

The technology to create a secure web based system exists today. Over 4B banking transactions occur daily without incident. Corporate entities, the military all deal with the transfer of sensitive data. Breaches to corporate systems do occur but most are due social engineering and not the failure of systems architecture.

We request the US Congress create a commision, to engage the expertise in the NSA, DARPA and appropriate government agencies, NOT government contractors, to design and implement a secure voting system, applicable for use in local as well as national elections. It should be web based allowing citizen access from any site that affords easy access to the internet.
