Mya's Law

Mya's Law

The Issue

I hereby petition Congress to invoke "Mya's Law" which will make it a crime to shoot an innocent family pet for wandering onto your property unless you can show that the animal endangered you or your family or property. Furthermore, I would ask that a crime such as this be considered "aggravated" if you do such things as lure the pet to your property with food and shoot it right in front of it's owner.

On September 12, 2016, in Shelby County, Alabama,  this beautiful German Shepherd, Mya,  who lived indoors and was a new mother to these sweet puppies was let out to get some exercise and use the bathroom. Her owner watching her as usual. Her owner, Kaylon Brown watched from his deck as Mya wandered over toward the edge of the yard and walked over to see what she was doing. What he saw was horrifying! A neighbor had lured Mya to the edge of her yard with some food, and shot her right in front of him. Mya had done nothing wrong. She was no threat whatsoever. Mya was my granddog, and a very beloved family pet. She was playful, loving, very well trained, and she was a never aggressive. She loved children and had a small Yorkie sister whom she loved and played with. Mya was a registered full blood German Shepherd and was only two years old.

Her devastated owner called police only to be told there was nothing they could do because Mya was on her property. She wasn't in danger, Mya had done nothing to make her feel threatened. She even lured Mya onto her property, but that didn't matter. They would not even make a police report. They said it is a civil matter not a criminal matter.

I petition you to change this and make it a criminal offense!

To everyone out there who owns pets, help us change this law before this happens to you and your beloved pets.

Thank you for your support,
