MAVNI reinstated so that non-U.S. citizens can serve in the U.S. military.

The Issue

As of December 2016, Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) is under review and closed indefinitely to new recruits. The MAVNI program allowed non-U.S. citizens (DACA and foreign service citizens) to serve in the U.S. military and gain their citizenship through national service which should be a right for anyone that wishes to be an American citizen. The program started in 2008 under the George W. Bush administration as a one-year pilot program with a cap of 1000 recruits. At its height it expanded to 5000 recruits per year and lasted 8 years.

General Mathis was an advocate for the reinstatement of MAVNI before he left his post. Regardless of administration views, the MAVNI program is beneficial for the DOD/DHS as it brings in vetted recruits with unique skills, talents, and a strong desire to serve.

Your signature will help push awareness to reinstate the MAVNI program so that more people have the opportunity to serve our great nation.
