Congress is in the pockets of the Corporations. It's time we represent ourselves.

The Issue

Ever wish you could stop Congress from making a bad decision with the push of a button?

In this day and age, we have the technology and existing infrastructure to create a secure, regulated, real-time voting web platform. A 3rd party platform (for the people by the people), with the sole purpose of providing citizens true political representation.

The driving force behind this platform is based on the coined term "Hive Mind", where the more people you have working on a problem (political, social, environmental, economical...etc.), the more favorable the odds are for attaining the better solution. A similar statement can be made in regards to reducing political corruption; where, the more people you put in power, the harder it becomes to buy them all out. In this case, we're talking about putting every citizen into a position of power.

The following three paragraphs detail the basic steps towards building a direct democracy (for the people by the people).

The 1st step requires citizens acquiring a "One-third swing vote" on all legislation passed through Congress. The swing vote is derived from 1/3rd of the voting seats in the House and/or Senate. (E.g. the Senate has 100 seats, which would give citizens the power of 33 seats and the House has 435 seats, giving citizens the power of 145 seats). To clarify the objective, let's say a bill to increase the budget for NASA is presented to the Senate. The Senate votes 28 for and 72 against the bill. Citizens would then have the opportunity to swing the vote with the power of 33 seats. A popular majority vote in favor of the bill would swing the Senate vote from 28 for / 72 against to 61 for / 39 against. A popular majority vote against the NASA budget bill would be considered unanimous (favoring all parties).

The 2nd step requires building an online platform which directly connects citizens and Congress. This platform is based on existing functions and features as found on Facebook, eBay, and Reddit. At the simplest level, citizens could logon and vote for or against any piece of legislation using a simple thumbs up or down icon. When the time-frame for voting expires, the popular majority vote would be applied; potentially swinging the House and/or Senate's vote. (To execute this voting process in a timely manner, legislation would need to be summarized into basic terms for the purpose of establishing a common understanding amongst all parties)

The 3rd step requires modifying the online platform to further benefit citizens. This involves creating a "National Interests Forum", where user generated topics-of-interest such as: Taxes, Immigration, Military spending, Minimum wage, Education, Gun control…etc., headline and trend based on popular demand. Furthermore, under each topic of interest, user resolutions would trend. Top trending user resolutions, for each topic of interest, would be legally formatted and presented to Congress for all parties to vote on.
