Bring awareness to domestic violence and the dangers of coercive control abuse.

The Issue

The Gabby Petito case has sparked outrage across the domestic violence community. For those of us who have been victims of domestic violence including emotional and financial abuse it was very clear what we saw on the police body cam footage. A woman who was being abuse and showing clear signs of trauma from coercive control.  It’s also important for us to acknowledge domestic violence is not gender or race specific and is a widespread problem that is devastating to our communities in ways we do not expect.

In an effort to bring awareness to the dangers of coercive control, this petition has been created demanding congress pass victim focused legislation by mandating all first responders including police officers and detectives as well as judges, attorneys, therapist, doctors, nurses, and teachers are trauma informed and properly trained to look for signs of coercive control behaviors that are demonstrated by both the victims AND the perpetrators. This legislation will also need to give law enforcement and judges the authority to take necessary action to detain and or restrain the perpetrator even if there are no visible signs of physical injury.

Here’s where we need your help:
