Why this petition matters

Started by Kevin Rivera

As time passes, Climate Change caused by Humanity's obsession with fossil fuels is becoming a bigger threat to both our way of life, and the environment.

We see bigger and longer lasting forest fires from the Pacific coast of America to the jungles of Africa, and the Bushes of Australia.

It's clear that the issue is far greater than any one group of people or nation. It is an issue that has negative implications for everyone alive today. As well as for the future of our species, and the planet as a whole.

As the planet heats up, we counterintuitivly contribute by burning MORE fossil fuels in an attempt to keep our homes, offices, and entertainment centers "cool."

Governments of the world try to offset the energy cost of "hot days" by requesting that their CITIZENS "cut down" on "unnecessary" energy consumption. Sometimes encouraging people to minimize the usage of air conditioning, or going as far as limiting/ shutting off power to certain (lesser income) areas- to ensure the grid can meet the growing demands of bigger (higher income) areas.

I think it's time to rise up and fight back against the corporations that have been exploiting the planet, and PEOPLE, for resources, energy, and our well being.

Let's DEMAND that HUMAN and environmental NEEDS be prioritized over "entertainment" or "leisure." Especially types like Times Square that demand CONSTANT, EXORBITANT amounts of energy to stay lit. With no REAL WORLD value.
