The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens, researchers, civil society activists, and peace advocates from around the world, strongly condemn U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to attack Iran's critical infrastructure. These threats constitute a flagrant violation of fundamental principles of international law, the UN Charter, and international humanitarian law (IHL), directly endangering the lives of millions of civilians.

Attacks on vital infrastructure—including energy networks, water systems, healthcare, communications, transportation, cultural sites, and scientific centers—cause not only immediate devastation but also long-term, irreparable harm to health, livelihoods, the environment, and human dignity of the Iranian people. Such threats amount to collective punishment and qualify as war crimes and indiscriminate attacks on civilians, specifically violating the following binding rules:

1. Article 52, Protocol I Additional to the Geneva Conventions
General protection of civilian objects
🔗 ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/ihl-treaties/api-1977/article-52

2. Article 54, Protocol I Additional to the Geneva Conventions
Prohibition of attacks on objects indispensable to civilian survival (water, energy)
🔗 ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/ihl-treaties/api-1977/article-54

3. UN Security Council Resolution 2341 (2017)
Protection of critical infrastructure (energy, water, transport)
🔗 undocs.org/S/RES/2341(2017)

4. Article 33, Geneva Convention IV
Prohibition of collective punishment

We believe no government or political leader—including the U.S. President—has the right to threaten nations with the destruction of essential infrastructure and social lifelines. Sustainable peace and security come through dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, and multilateral legal and political mechanisms—not through threats, sanctions, military attacks, or the demolition of ordinary people's daily lives.

Therefore, we call on governments, international and regional organizations, the United Nations, European Union, human rights bodies, and global civil society to:

Publicly and unequivocally condemn any threats of attack on Iran's infrastructure as contrary to their commitments under international law and the UN Charter.
Urge the U.S. government to immediately withdraw all threats or military actions against Iran's vital civilian infrastructure.
Activate monitoring and legal mechanisms to prevent attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure in any conflict, holding responsible officials accountable where necessary.
Support diplomatic, dialogue-based, non-military solutions to de-escalate tensions and protect Iranian lives and livelihoods.
We also urge media, academics, scientific associations, trade unions, human rights groups, and social networks to amplify this campaign, highlight the human, legal, and ethical dangers of threats against Iran's infrastructure, and stand with the Iranian people and all victims of violence-driven policies and collective punishment.

By signing this petition, we affirm these principles:

The Iranian people's right to live in peace, security, and dignity, free from threats of attack and infrastructure destruction.
All governments' obligation to uphold international law, IHL, and prohibitions on attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The absolute priority of political, diplomatic, and just solutions over any resort to force.
We call on the international community to take this threat seriously, stand against the normalization of war rhetoric and violence, and take immediate, effective action to protect Iranian lives and futures—and ultimately defend the international legal order.

Add your name to this campaign to show the world rejects such threats and will not remain silent against policies targeting human life and dignity.
