Condemn the killing of Indian seafarers and seek justice
The Issue
We, the undersigned citizens, trade unions, maritime workers’ organizations, democratic movements, and concerned members of civil society, express our profound shock and anguish over the reported killing of Indian seafarers in a military attack carried out by the United States in the Gulf region.
The loss of innocent civilian lives in any military operation is unacceptable. Indian seafarers serving aboard commercial vessels are workers engaged in peaceful maritime trade and must never become victims of geopolitical conflicts or military actions. The deaths of these Indian citizens have caused immense grief to their families and have raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of thousands of Indian seafarers working across international waters.
We call upon the international maritime authorities, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Directorate General of Shipping India, and relevant government bodies, to take immediate, comprehensive measures to enhance the security of Indian seafarers. This includes increased naval patrols in high-risk regions, improved security protocols on vessels, and better communication and coordination among international maritime nations.
Furthermore, we urge an expedited investigation into these brutal killings to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. Legal mechanisms should be strengthened to hold these criminals accountable and to deter future incidents. Families of the victims must be provided with the necessary support and compensation to help them through these difficult times.
These life-threatening challenges to Indian seafarers cannot be ignored any longer. To protect our seafaring community and uphold maritime security, we must act now. Please sign this petition to demonstrate your support for the safety and justice for Indian seafarers and to urge decisive action from global maritime authorities to end this violence.
We therefore demand that:
The Government of India strongly protest this incident through all appropriate diplomatic channels.
A transparent, independent, and internationally monitored investigation be conducted to establish the facts and determine responsibility.
The United States Government provide a full explanation regarding the circumstances that led to the attack and the resulting loss of civilian lives.
Adequate compensation be provided to the families of the deceased and to those affected by the incident.
Comprehensive measures be taken to ensure the safety and protection of Indian seafarers operating in conflict-prone maritime zones.
The Government of India formulate and implement a robust maritime safety protocol, including emergency evacuation and crisis-response mechanisms for Indian crew members working in high-risk regions.
International maritime organizations and the United Nations take urgent steps to protect civilian shipping and maritime workers from military attacks.
Indian seafarers contribute significantly to global trade and to the Indian economy. Their lives, dignity, and safety must be protected at all times. We urge the Government of India to act decisively and ensure that justice is secured for the victims and their families.
An injury to one worker is an injury to all. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and reaffirm our commitment to the protection of maritime workers everywhere.
Justice for the Indian Seafarers.
Accountability for the Loss of Civilian Lives.
Protection for Maritime Workers in Conflict Zones.
