Condemn Political Violence of BNP in Bangladesh and Demand Independent Investigation
The Issue
After the student led July uprising in 2024, the people of Bangladesh hoped to rebuild the country and begin a new democratic chapter based on stability, safety and prosperity.
Instead, the period that followed has been marked by widespread reports of violence. After the 12 February 2026 election, widely alleged to be rigged, supporters of the majority winning BNP have been accused of intimidation, financial extortion, assaults, murders and sexual violence against political opponents and civilians.
One of the most shocking incidents reported was the rape of a mother of three in Hatia after she voted for Shapla Koli.
These actions represent a grave violation of human rights and human dignity.
Our Position
- We strongly condemn the reported acts of violence committed by BNP supporters and demand accountability from the party leadership.
- No political victory justifies terror, retaliation or abuse against civilians.
Our Demands
- An independent and impartial international investigation into all post election violence.
- Identification and prosecution of perpetrators regardless of political affiliation.
- Public accountability and response from BNP leadership.
- Immediate protection for civilians and political opponents.
- Justice and support for victims and survivors.
Appeal to the International Community
We call on Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the global human rights community to condemn verified abuses, monitor the situation and support independent investigations.
Democracy cannot exist under fear. No citizen should face violence for exercising the right to vote.
