Condemn Nigel Farage's Racist Remarks Against Roma
The Issue
📢 Petition: Stand Against Hate – Protect the Roma Community in the UK
We, the undersigned, representing civil society organisations, charities, and concerned individuals, firmly condemn the recent discriminatory remarks made by Nigel Farage targeting the Roma community.
In a public interview in June 2025, Mr Farage stated that “Roma people… cannot possibly integrate with the locals; they have a completely different set of standards, life beliefs, and values” (Daily Mail, June 11, 2025). Such statements reinforce dangerous stereotypes, promote division, and contribute to the marginalisation of an already vulnerable population. Hate speech has real-life consequences—and we cannot remain silent.
There are over 300,000 Romanian Roma living in the UK. Many have lived and worked here for over a decade. They contribute to the economy, raise families, and participate fully in society. Their children, born and raised in the UK, are part of this country’s future.
We do not excuse criminal behaviour, but we strongly reject the blanket criminalisation of entire ethnic groups. Targeting Roma people based on ethnicity is unjust, irresponsible, and fuels hate.
We call on:
The Romanian Embassy in the UK to publicly condemn these discriminatory statements and to reaffirm its responsibility to protect all Romanian citizens abroad, including Roma communities.
British regulatory authorities, including Ofcom and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), to review these public remarks as potential hate speech and take appropriate action in accordance with UK law and anti-discrimination standards.
Civil society organisations have worked tirelessly for years to promote inclusion, combat prejudice, and support Roma integration across the UK. We stand united in our commitment to justice, equality, and respect for human dignity.
This is not just about the Roma community. It is about defending democratic values and standing against all forms of racism and hate.
We urge all citizens, public institutions, and community leaders to join us in rejecting xenophobia and protecting the rights and dignity of all people.
