Computer Literacy and Competency: A greatly valued and needed skill of each one of us
The Issue
According to the statistics provided by Kemp (2019), there are 5.112 billion mobile phone users, 4.388 billion internet users, and 3.484 billion active social media users worldwide. In the years leading up to 2022, the number of people who utilize technology is predicted to rapidly increase. The terms "computer competence" and "computer literacy" have become more widely used and discussed. Individuals who have the knowledge and ability to use a computer and other associated technology are referred to as computer literate. This word usually refers to the most fundamental knowledge and abilities required to operate software products like an operating system, a software program, or an automated Web design tool. Computer literacy has been a subject of educational research ever since personal computers were introduced to the classroom, either as teaching aid or as tool for self-study. Computer literacy is becoming more and more important. Computer competency is the capability to use information technology. (Kilgore College, 2015). It means having the ability to use computer applications in the education and at work, as well as the capability to properly use the internet and other information technology resources.
Computer literacy is seen as a crucial ability to have. Today's academic and professional environments put a priority on computer and Internet skills. Because computer skills are essential in all fields of study and work, this leads to academic and professional success. Businesses are growing increasingly reliant on computers that’s why employers expect their employees to have basic computer skills. Many employers try to use computers to make their businesses run more efficiently and cost effectively. The potential to succeed in technical courses is greatly reduced without fundamental computer abilities. This emphasizes the importance of assessing these skills early on to ensure students' success in following courses.
To sum it up, having knowledge and skills in using computer and other technology-related programs are beneficial in almost every field of work. This petition will benefit viewers by encouraging them to learn about computers and become computer literate because they are extremely useful and beneficial in almost every profession.
