The recent shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas is just one of many mass shootings that have taken place in the last 20 years. We can no longer say our thoughts and prayers; the time has come for us to demand real change. Change can only come from meaningful gun reform legislation.

I’m political science major and an expecting father.
I do not want this to ever be as easily done as it was just days ago. 19 babies and 2 teachers laid to rest and many more severely injured.

We are petitioning our governor Greg Abbott and Texas Representatives to pass a bill that

• Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
• Require a permit/license to carry firearms
• Require mandatory safety classes for all potential gun buyers in which license can be obtained
• Introduce mental health interview to be reviewed by local/state qualifying psychologists for purchase of military-grade like weapons (semi-automatic, particularly AR-15’s)
• Introduce a waiting period for purchase of military-grade like weapons (semi-automatic, particularly AR-15’s)
• Require 2 references to be interviewed for purchase of military-grade like weapons (semi-automatic, particularly AR-15’s)
• Conduct more thorough, comprehensive background checks and deny gun purchases to any person convicted of a violent crime or domestic violence
