The Issue

Living just a half-mile west of I-95, directly between the Earman River canal and Northlake Blvd, it feels as though the constant roar of highway traffic is an ever-present soundtrack on my back patio. This daily assault of noise and dust disrupts the tranquility of our homes and affects our quality of life. Many residents in Palm Beach Gardens experience similar disturbances from the high volume of traffic on I-95, which is exacerbated by future construction plans.

As the Florida Department of Transportation plans upgrades and construction for the interchange at Northlake Blvd and I-95 towards PGA Blvd, we urge them to include the completion of sound walls over the Earman River C-17 canal on I-95. This measure, along with raising the height of the side walls on the overpass bridge over Northlake Blvd—similar to what was done over Holly Dr.—can significantly cut down the noise and dirt dust levels affecting our homes.

Constructing these sound barriers is not just a matter of comfort but also a matter of community health. Elevated noise levels have been linked to sleep disturbances, cardiovascular issues, and increased stress, as affirmed by studies from the World Health Organization. People's well-being should not be compromised for roadway expansion and traffic flow improvements.

We recognize the benefits these road projects bring to Palm Beach Gardens, such as enhancing connectivity and reducing congestion. However, it's crucial that these improvements don't come at the expense of our residents' peace and health. Sound walls have proven effective in mitigating noise pollution and should be an integral part of the upcoming construction projects.

We call on the Florida DOT to prioritize the health and comfort of Palm Beach Gardens residents by completing sound walls over the Earman River C-17 canal and extending the overpass side walls over Northlake Blvd. By doing so, we can achieve a balance between necessary development and community well-being.

Please join us in this effort to protect our neighborhoods from excessive noise and dust. Sign this petition to show your support for these essential changes that will foster a more peaceful and livable environment for us all. Thank you for your support.
