Complete Redevelopment of Our Estate Playground
The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, are calling on the council to commit to the complete redevelopment of our estate playground and recreational area.
This park has served local families for many years, but it is now well past its usable lifespan and no longer meets the needs or expectations of the community. As a resident who has lived on this estate for 34 years, I have witnessed very little investment in the park, with the only noticeable improvement being the repainting of the railings.
The current condition of the playground is unacceptable and raises serious concerns regarding safety, accessibility and the wellbeing of local children.
Current Concerns
-The existing tarmac surface becomes excessively hot during warm weather and is outdated and unsuitable for a modern children's play area.
-Play equipment, including the slide, becomes dangerously hot in the summer months.
-A gate is missing, leaving the playground unsecured and creating potential safety risks for young children.
-Numerous holes and uneven surfaces in the grass create trip hazards for children, parents, careers and elderly residents.
-Much of the equipment is ageing, tired and no longer reflects the needs of today's families.
-The overall appearance and condition of the park suggest years of underinvestment.
What We Are Asking For
We are not seeking temporary repairs or minor maintenance works.
We are calling for:
-A full removal of the existing playground and surfacing.
-A complete redesign and redevelopment of the site.
-New, modern and inclusive play equipment suitable for children of all ages and abilities.
-Safe impact-absorbing surfacing throughout the play area.
-Secure fencing and gates around the playground.
-Improved landscaping and grassed areas.
-Additional seating, bins and community facilities where appropriate.
-Consultation with local residents and families on the design of the new park.
Why This Matters
Every child deserves access to a safe, modern and enjoyable place to play. Our estate families should not have to make do with a playground that has been neglected for decades while other areas benefit from investment and improvement.
This park is a vital community asset, but it has reached the point where patch repairs are no longer enough. The playground requires a complete overhaul and significant investment to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
We therefore urge the council to allocate funding for a full redevelopment project and provide residents with a clear timeline for delivery.
It is time for our children and future generations to have a playground they can be proud of.
