Complete Paving of Gravel Road from J Ed Turner to The Preserve
Complete Paving of Gravel Road from J Ed Turner to The Preserve
The Issue
The drive around Hattiesburg, Mississippi has become increasingly inconvenient due to an unfinished portion of the road that connects J Ed Turner Drive to The Preserve. Like many residents in this community, I was pleased when they paved part of this road for the new Slate project. But unfortunately, our established community, which has been a consistent tax base for the City of Hattiesburg, Lamar County, and the Longleaf School in Oak Grove, has been overlooked in this development.
The gravel road not only causes inconvenience but also poses safety risks and contributes to higher vehicle maintenance costs. Residents, school buses, and emergency services navigating through this uneven and poorly maintained road face daily challenges. This road is especially problematic due to heavy rains, which can cause further degradation, turning the gravel into a slippery and hazardous stretch.
A complete paving project would not only alleviate these issues but also increase property values, improve community morale, and ensure quicker response times for emergency services. The development of The Preserve, along with adjoining neighborhoods, necessitates a road infrastructure that meets the basic standards expected within a growing community.
It's essential that local authorities recognize the needs of its long-standing residents. I urge the City of Hattiesburg, the Lamar County Board of Supervisors, and other stakeholders to prioritize the completion of the J Ed Turner to The Preserve road paving project. This is not just about convenience; it's about safety, efficiency, and fairness.
Please join me in calling on the relevant authorities to address this matter promptly by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure our voices are heard and that this critical infrastructure improvement is achieved for the benefit of all residents.
