Implore Meta to Extend Facebook's Monetization Eligibility to Nigerian Content Creators

The Issue

Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms in Nigeria, with millions of users who create and consume content every day. However, many Nigerian content creators are unable to earn money from their work on Facebook, because Nigeria is not among the countries that are eligible for Facebook's monetization products.

Facebook's monetization products include:

  • In-stream ads: Ads that play during or before videos
  • Fan subscriptions: A way for fans to support their favorite creators with monthly payments
  • Stars: A way for fans to send virtual gifts to creators during live streams
  • Branded content: A way for creators to partner with brands and promote their products or services

These products are only available to creators and publishers who meet certain eligibility standards and follow Facebook's rules for monetization. However, even if they meet these standards and rules, they still need to be located in one of the countries that Meta supports for monetization.

According to Facebook's website, Nigeria is not among the countries with access to in-stream ads. This means that Nigerian content creators are missing out on an opportunity to earn money from their hard work and creativity, while their counterparts in other countries can benefit from Facebook's monetization products.

This is unfair and discriminatory. We believe that Nigerian content creators deserve a chance to earn money from their content on Facebook, just like anyone else. We also believe that Meta should recognize the value and potential of the Nigerian market, which is one of the largest and most vibrant in Africa.

That's why we are calling on Meta to extend its Facebook monetization eligibility to Nigeria as soon as possible. By doing so, Meta will not only empower Nigerian content creators, but also foster a more diverse and inclusive global community of content creation and consumption.

Please sign this petition and share it with your friends and family. Together, we can make our voices heard and urge Meta to extend monetization eligibility to Nigeria.

Thank you for your support!
