Having lived in Cocoa, I understand and value the health of our community. However, my concern lies in the current public water condition due to the choice 4 politicians have made to resume adding fluoride to our drinking water. This is not only a health issue for adults, but more importantly, for our children. There are studies indicating a correlation between children's lowered IQ levels and fluoride exposure, implying a potential risk for their cognitive development. 

Fluoride added to drinking water is a hazardous byproduct of phosphate fertilizer companies. Despite its potential advantages in tooth decay prevention, experts suggest its toxicity poses more significant risks. Most notably, substantial fluoride intake may lead to skeletal and dental fluorosis or thyroid problems, as indicated by the World Health Organization.

Moreover, this practice violates our right to personal choice and the principle of informed consent when it comes to matters directly affecting our health. Therefore, delaying or refusing to address this issue serves as an infringement on our rights as residents.

We urge the city officials to review the prevailing scientific evidence regarding the potential harm caused by fluoride in drinking water. We need policies that prioritize our health and well-being and reflect our choices as Cocoa citizens.
