The Issue

My restaurant, Subarama, has been a proud member of the Anderson city community for many years. Serving our community has been more than just business; it's been a joy and an honor. Recently, the economic climate has caused us to shift our model from a brick and mortar set-up to a mobile food unit. In our view, this was an avenue to continue serving our community. However, Anderson city's existing and unfair ban on food trucks has blocked us from this opportunity.

Nearly 4% (about 1 in every 25) of America’s restaurants are food trucks, according to the National Restaurant Association. They are crucial components of the food scene, adding diversity and dynamism to the culinary landscape. In many other cities, food trucks are commonplace, encouraged by appropriate legislation put in place to support this burgeoning sector.

We therefore urge Anderson city leadership to prioritize the creation of food truck ordinances that will provide a fair playing field for all businesses. In the interim, a temporary measure should be instituted to allow food trucks to operate within city limits. This will not only ensure business continuity for operators like us at Subarama but also nourish the city's diverse food culture.

We are not asking for favoritism, only fair treatment. Anderson city should not prioritize one type of business over the other but encourage the growth of a diverse business environment. After all, it’s the variety in our community that makes us special. Let's maintain it. Please sign this petition to draw attention to this necessary change.
