Compassionate Release of Porfirio Estrada from Prison

Compassionate Release of Porfirio Estrada from Prison
The Issue
The prison system is a harsh environment for anyone, but for my brother, Porfirio Estrada, it's become a debilitating place. Paralyzed from the waist down, blind in one eye, and suffering from weak kidneys and diabetes, he is severely ill. His health is at risk every single day. He is incapable of performing daily living activities without assistance due to his disability. It’s not prison, for him, it’s purgatory. His kidneys have sharply deteriorated since he went to prison. He has a sore on the left foot and since incarcerated now also on his right foot, we are very concerned that this can ultimately result in amputation of parts of his toes or feet. In addition, he told his family that in a month he showered only once because he wasn't able to get assistance. His first day in prison he slept on the floor because the bed was too high for him to get onto and had no assistance. His crime was not doing his taxes for 3 years, and he is very sorry for that and is now paying his debt. Since then he has closed his business and his priority is his health and his family.
We therefore, appeal for my brother's release on compassionate grounds.
His continued incarceration serves no purpose to society, and it elevates his suffering. He should be allowed to come home to an environment equipped to cater to his health needs, where he can be shown the compassion any human being deserves and where they can seek the best medical care available. From a place of love and fear, we plead with those in power, please grant my brother and others like him their rightful compassion and humanity.
We ask you to sign this petition to advocate for the compassionate release of my brother, Porfirio Estrada, and other incarcerated individuals with severe health conditions.
