Carnival fish are victim to neglect, abuse, and murder at every fair. They are often won by children that do not understand how to care for a living being, or whose parents do not want the burden of properly caring for the animal. Further, every year I witness teenagers kicking around the bagged fish like a ball, dumping the fish in a creek (with untreated water so the fish suffocates), or leaving them on the ground to suffer in the hot summer sun until they die in their bag. Carnivals have plenty of other prizes, such as stuffed animals and posters that children could take home without the responsibility of caring for another life. The use of living fish as prizes is unnecessary. Carnival games are more often then not impulse plays and results in the death of an innocent being within a few days of being won. This does not need to happen.
