Enforce the Black Lives Matter at School and the 1619 Curriculum at Lakeside High-School

The Issue

Lakeside High-school, at its core, is filled with hate. These two programs will help our school move forward to racial equality. The demands and values set in place by the Black Lives Matter At School program will create a welcoming environment for students of every color. The 1619 Project published by the New York Times puts slavery at the heart of our country’s history and explores the rebirths thereof. All students at some point in time feel that their education is being “white washed” and that certain aspects of other cultures and history are being left out. This curriculum is factual and is not afraid to display America’s past mistakes in details. This is something we need in our classrooms to be able to explore ethical mistakes made by people in power and discuss them in an educational and learning environment. We, as a nation, can only move forward from the mistakes that we place on the table. Without placing the mistakes of slavery on the education table, we cannot properly understand our mistakes to be able to move forward from them as a country.
