NO TO BTA EXTENSION TO 2025 AND YES TO BARMM ELECTION IN MAY 2022

The Issue

We, representing a significant number of youth leaders in the Provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi (BASULTA), cognizant of the prevailing political situation undertaken by the government of the day and due to incapability to implement some provisions stipulated under Republic Act No. 11054 also known as "Oraganic Law of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao", we hereby strongly state our stand, to wit;

  1. That the proposed three (3) years extension of Bangsamoro Transition Authority - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BTA-BARMM) through the deferment of the May 2022 first regular election for the Members of Parliament is NOT LOGICAL and a clear manifestation of inability to govern the BARMM; that the demand of BTA-BARMM to extend its transition is a clear violation of Article VII. Section 11, of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), which determined the three-year inception of the members of parliament;
  2. That the deferment of the first election of the Bangsamoro Parliament set for May 2022 is not only a renunciation of the Right to Suffrage of every BARMM electorates and constituents but  a blatant rejection of Bangsamoro People's desire to elect their true representatives to Member of Parliament as leaders and frame the necessary laws needed by the region while practicing moral, just, and fair governance. This too, is a clear violation of the 1987 Constitution on the Right to Suffrage of every citizen specifically Article V. Section 1 thereof;
  3. That the Bangsamoro People are aggrieved due to the lack of true development, direction, cooperation, coordination, and consultation with the people. And, should the first election be pushed through, the unfinished work involved may be continued and completed by the true representatives and first elected Bangsamoro Parliament in May 2022. Thus, we demand no other option but to continue the scheduled BARMM Election 2022 and they (BTA) must stand for accountability and judgment of the constituents under its jurisdiction which they swore to serve for it to be deserving the mantle of moral ascendancy to govern;

THEREFORE, to magnify the multitude of opposing voice, WE vehemently and steadfastly join the call on the Office of the President, the Honorable Members of Legislatures, Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reform of the 18th Congress, Constitutional Commission and Bangsamoro People in general to DISALLOW and/or DENY all efforts and initiatives from the concern quarters of proposing and postponement of BARMM 2022 election. The true will of the people must be unhampered and should be allowed to exercise freely.

WE HEREBY SIGNED THIS ONLINE PETITION IN SUPPORT TO THE CALL FOR REJECTION AND DENIAL OF THE PROPOSED BTA-BARMM EXTENSION TO 2025 and DEFERMENT OF FIRST 2022 BARMM ELECTION.
