I oppose United Water’s proposal for a desalination plant for Rockland County.

United Water’s proposed desalination plant would greatly increase water rates, would promote overdevelopment, would increase our energy use and carbon footprint, and would imperil an irreplaceable ecosystem of the Hudson River.

 I urge Governor Cuomo, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and the NYS Department of State to:

1.  Oppose an energy-intensive and costly desalination plant in Haverstraw Bay that would be inconsistent with state policies to protect an irreplaceable river habitat.

2.  Support cost-effective, sustainable water policies for Rockland County and the region.
