Commission a High-Budget Historical Drama Focusing on the Building of the Erie Canal
The Issue
Born and raised in Lockport, NY, I have always been enthralled by the rich heritage of the place I call home, particularly the creating of the Erie Canal. A monumental task that transcended borders and races, the canal's construction embodied the spirit of hard work, perseverance and cooperation. This is why I am proposing the creation of a big budget historical drama centered on these events.
Our focus will be the Irish immigrants, who toiled tirelessly to construct the Flight of Five in Lockport. These brave souls faced hardships, Anti Catholicism, and Xenophobia. Yet they soldiered on, shaping one of America's greatest feats of engineering and transforming the nation economically and socially.
In addition to this, we cannot overlook the story of Governor Dewitt Clinton. Despite the constant backlash from his detractors, Governor Clinton fought hard for the canal's construction, demonstrating tremendous leadership, foresight and resilience.
History does not exist solely within the pages of books and the walls of museums. It also breathes life into the stories told on screen - capturing the essence of the people, their struggles and triumphs. These historical details serve as reminders of our roots, guiding us in our present and future paths.
Let us honor the memory of these courageous men and women. Let's bring their stories to life - encouraging understanding, fostering appreciation, and inspiring generations to come. Sign this petition to show your support for a major studio to take interest and invest in this significant historical drama. Our stories are worth telling, our heritage is worth remembering.
