Combine the Dakotas and grant Puerto Rico statehood

Combine the Dakotas and grant Puerto Rico statehood
The Issue
Every time I think about North Dakota and South Dakota, I wonder why we have two separate states when there is nothing there, no one has ever met anyone from either state. These are vast, sparsely populated regions with similar cultures, economies, and nothing happens there. On the other hand, Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, is home to millions of U.S. citizens who currently lack full representation and voting rights.
For years now, I've watched as Puerto Ricans continue to serve valiantly in the U.S. military, contribute to our economy, and share our national identity. Yet, despite their spirit and dedication, they remain disenfranchised, unable to cast votes for their own President or have a voting representative in Congress. It's unjust and it cannot continue.
By combining North Dakota and South Dakota into one state, to be henceforth known as Dakota, we can streamline governance and more efficiently manage state affairs. This merger would allow us to admit Puerto Rico as the 50th state of the Union without altering the current number of stars on our flag.
If granted statehood, the millions of Puerto Ricans would finally gain the voting rights they deserve. Moreover, this could boost their economy by allowing them to have a say in federal economic policies that affect their livelihoods.
Dozens of polls and studies suggest that citizens of Puerto Rico are overwhelmingly in favor of statehood. This step could significantly improve the quality of life for millions of American citizens.
This isn't just about political balance or pragmatic governance; it's a question of justice, equality, and fairness. Puerto Rico deserves a voice and a vote. Let's take a bold step forward for equality and fairness by reshaping our state territories and embracing Puerto Rico as our newest state.
Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to merge North and South Dakota and grant Puerto Rico the statehood and representation it deserves. The time for change is now. Let's make equality and fairness a reality for all American citizens.
