Combine KEPS and KES school in Houghton Johannesburg

The Issue

King Edward Primary School and King Edward High School are both based on the border of Houghton and Yeoville, Johannesburg. Many parents enroll their children in the Primary school hoping to have their children continue through to High school on the same premises.  The children familiarize themselves with both schools since they start from young.
The two schools share the same facilities and also the same tuck shop.
The uniforms are the same as well. We look at it as sister schools and expect the continuity from primary to High.  Since the new enrollment system, the Department of Education has split the 2 schools as independent schools which makes no sense to parents of the Primary school

going children. I have personally been a “victim” of this “abuse” of power.  My son, like many other boys who were in the Primary section from Grade R and who now have to go to Grade 8 were auto placed in schools that are further away from their homes as compared to KES school. Boys from afar were placed in KES while we were turned away.  The environment for the boys being together from young is healthy as they become friends who work together in school and that assists them in their education going to the new high school environment.
We demand that the Department of Education give priority to the Primary school students to continue at the sister school from Grade 8 upwards.  The boys that were accepted at the KING EDWARD HIGH SCHOOL are now expected to pay an additional registration fee of R6500 to attend the high school if accepted.  That is all uncalled for and we demand that the Primary and High school be recognized as one institution. As outlined they share all the facilities including the swimming pool complex.
let our voices be heard. Please sign this petition and let the Department of Education not do as they please as this new enrollment system is the biggest stress for all parents who have children going to grade 1 and grade 8. Let them be realistic and not be demanding on us.
