The Issue

Corruption has been an ongoing impediment to the social and economic development of the Philippines. The prevalence of corrupt practices in our government continues to affect millions of Filipinos, hindering progress and perpetuating inequality. It is imperative that we unite to combat this issue and strive for a more transparent and accountable governance.

The Philippines ranks poorly on the Corruption Perceptions Index, reflecting a serious issue that undermines democracy and the rule of law. It's not just about unethical practices within offices; corruption spans a range of activities, including bribery, embezzlement, and exploitation of public funds. According to Transparency International, the Philippines ranked 115th out of 180 countries in 2020 on the global corruption perception scale, underscoring the urgent need for reform.

Addressing corruption requires systemic change, reforms in the judicial process, and safeguarding whistleblowers who risk their lives to expose unethical practices. We urge the government to strengthen anti-corruption legislation and enforce strict penalties against offenders. Moreover, transparency measures should be enhanced, such as mandatory disclosure of public officials' assets and increased public access to government data.

Educational campaigns are also crucial to cultivate a culture of integrity among citizens and future leaders. Such initiatives should be incorporated into school curriculums to raise awareness from an early age about the consequences of corruption and the importance of ethical conduct.

We call upon President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other government officials to prioritize this national concern and commit to an uncompromising stance against corruption. It is time for action, not just rhetoric, to ensure a corruption-free Philippines that fosters growth and equality for all its citizens.

Please sign this petition to demand a future where integrity, transparency, and accountability are at the forefront of the Philippine national agenda. Demand change, demand justice, demand an end to corruption.
