I am writing from the depths of my heart, burdened with concern for the numerous children suffering at the hands of abusive parents in our town, county, and state. This is deeply personal to me. My daughter, an abusive parent herself, has inflicted immeasurable mental, emotional, and verbal harm on her own children. These children have been made to feel worthless, their confidence crushed, their dignity stripped away. Not only were they subjected to verbal derogation, but they also faced financial exploitation with well over $6000 siphoned off between two of the children for her personal gain.

These injustices need to be curtailed immediately. What is happening in Marionville, MO is an illustration of a dysfunctional child welfare system, a testament to our flawed laws, and a failing law enforcement system. Unfortunately, teenagers, especially 17-year-olds, find themselves in a legal vacuum where they are unable to seek redress against abusive parents. This begs urgent attention and immediate action.

Let's send a clear and compelling message to our legislators, the child welfare system, and the local law enforcement agencies: We demand enhancements to laws that protect children against abuse, particularly verbal and emotional, and a significant seat at the table for minors above 16 in matters concerning their wellbeing.
