Get the Columbus Blue Jackets to retire Rick Nash's number!
The Issue
It's time for the Columbus Blue Jackets to honor the most legendary player in franchise history: Rick Nash. He was (and arguably still is) the face of this franchise as he holds the record for: games played, goals, power play goals, short-handed goals, game-winning goals, assists, points, shots on goal, and time on ice. In addition to these numerous franchise records, he was on the NHL all-rookie team in 2003, has a Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy in 2004, SIX All-Star appearances, NHL Foundation Player Award in 2009, and two Olympic gold medals. The first overall draft pick and five year captain was also nominated for an ESPY (best play) for his spectacular goal against the Phoenix Coyotes in 2008. Many, including the NBC Hockey Youtube channel, claim it to be the single greatest goal EVER scored in the history of the NHL.
Think about it... if you could attribute one person for your passion to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who would it be? I realize he broke many of our hearts when he reportedly requested a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets, but how can you blame him? He was stuck on a team who didn't know how to win, and someone with Nash's talent doesn't deserve to be stuck in such an environment. He wanted a shot at the Stanley Cup, the most coveted award in hockey.
Besides, Nash said he had a "done deal" to return to the Blue Jackets if his doctor didn't steer him away from returning due to his concussion history in 2019. He currently holds a position in CBJ's front office as the "special assistant to the General Manager" as his family resides in the city of Columbus- a city in which he deeply loves.
My message to The 5th Line: LET'S SHOW THE COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS AND NHL HOW PASSIONATE WE ARE! Sign this petition to further our goal in putting number 61 in the rafters and getting some decoration up in Nationwide Arena. Please share on social media and send the link to any family or friends! Go Jackets!
