Stop Gas Station Construction In Our Back Yards

We, the undersigned residents, are in opposition of the proposed building of a gas station at 8th St. & W. Brookside St. There are negative effects that will impact the environment, ground water, air quality, and noise pollution for the surrounding homes. This will impact the neighborhood character and quality of life for the surrounding residents.

The significant changes that will affect our community negatively are as follows:

Harmful Effects on Human Health
Studies have shown that gas stations within a residential area have been linked to childhood leukemia, anemia, cancer, various infections, and low birth weight. See study at https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22028451/

Safety of the Surrounding Residents and Children
Gas stations introduce some serious safety concerns. For example, explosions and violent crime.

Property Value Reduced
The gas station will impact the sale of homes thus reducing the property values to residents already established in the community.

Light and Noise Pollution
Gas stations often play loud music and advertisements at the pumps and have very bright lights at night which will negatively affect the quality of life for residents in the surrounding area.

These are some of the many negative effects that will impact our community and we are hopeful that we can make a difference in having a better suited business at this location that will not cause the serious health hazards that a gas station imposes to the residents.
