Group of teens and their families spent the last 2 days photographing trash, soil erosion and menacing fences. Since the best predictor of future behavior is often the past, several teens opposed to the land swap started asking, "Who says the Broadmoor will be better stewards? It's wild, open land. How do they take care of their current wild, natural spaces?" So, they sought out to see what evidence they might find regarding asserted stewardship, a primary reason given for Broadmoor ownership of Strawberry Fields. They photographed issues with: 1. Trash 2. Erosion 3. Wildlife, and 4. the Land Because they wanted to be thorough, they went back the next day to GPS tag every issue they saw. Attached is an album of their 2 days of investigative work. What you will see is PLENTY of trash (it's to be expected) -- even A TRUCK (got Strawberry beat there, hands down), a couch, dresser, stairs from a house and lots of tires...GRAFFITI...sadly, fences that seem inhospitable to wildlife, fields - (not just a piece of a social trail) - of soil erosion problems with DEEP ravines created by water and electrical lines that are only about 5 feet off the ground and sagging. Take a look for yourself. You be the judge. Is this better stewardship? It's an absurd argument, isn't it? Feel free to print any of these to share with JP Murphy et al. when they get up to wax and wane ad nauseum about trash and stewardship. The Broadmoor is no better and Strawberry, given the $95,000 of fire mitigation spent in the last 2 years, is arguably in MUCH better shape. It hasn't been neglected and requires very little work in the first place. The minor issues which may exists -- we can handle. Mother Nature has done a terrific job with this special land. No nasty fences either. The animals love Strawberry Fields. Don't forget tomorrow - Be heard - show up to support Richard Skorman and Michael Chaussee: City Councilor Keith King's town hall meeting 6 p.m. Monday, March 14 Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Ave. Phone: (719) 385-5470 E-mail: Kcking@springsgov.com
