Colorado Legislators and Governor Hickenlooper: Restore School Funding to Help Our Children Succeed in the Future

Colorado Legislators and Governor Hickenlooper: Restore School Funding to Help Our Children Succeed in the Future
The Issue
Over the last four years, the state has cut funding to Colorado's schools by over $1 Billion against the will of Colorado citizens who voted in 2000 to increase funding for K-12 schools. The education funds were used by the Legislature to balance state deficits instead. At the same time, the Colorado legislature has implemented significant reforms that have required substantial local investment. Learn more at http://www.cosfp.org/. These cuts and new unfunded mandates have resulted in larger class sizes, higher student fees, purchasing freezes, loss of programs, etc. In short, this means fewer opportunities for the children in this state in an ever increasing competitive global economy.
We need to show legislators that Coloradans want school funding to be restored, as we already voted on in 2000. Please sign this petition asking our legislators and the governor to restore school funding.
If you want to do more, please send an email or letter to your legislators and the governor asking them to restore school funding. Specifically:
1) Honor the voter intent of the constitutional mandate of Amendment 23;
2) Begin restoring K-12 funding THIS YEAR by adding $275M of funding with no strings attached;
3) Eliminate the 'negative factor' completely over the next four years (by 2018);
4) Save the BEST program to support the rebuilding and rehabilitation of Colorado’s school infrastructure.
Thank you for your support!
