Collier County public schools recently cancelled all homecoming dances within our district. This decision was made due to issues related to COVID-19 , despite schools having already returned to a normal schedule and routine. At each high school, student governments have worked tirelessly in preparation for the school dance, only to have it cancelled with such short notice. Homecoming, along with other school functions, are rites of passage that students carry with them long after high school. Not to mention, The fall dance is an optional function, thus any student who feels uncomfortable attending due to the virus can simply stay home. This ruling robs all CCPS students of a (ANOTHER) timeless event. The Corona Virus has limited our high school experience enough as it is… student of CCPS urge the district to reinstate Homecoming!!!
