The Issue
Universities everywhere are beginning to require proof of the COVID-19 vaccination in order to enroll in classes. I am an undergraduate student entering my senior year at a public university. I am no longer allowed to attend classes on campus, or remain a student-athlete. I was forced out of my sport I have dedicated 15 years to, therefore losing eligibility to compete going into my final year due to COVID-19 vaccine protocols. Athletes are being stripped of their chance to represent their University, students are being deprived of a proper education, and our society is slowly becoming more and more controlled.
Regardless of how much money and time you have given to your school, students may never have a chance to finish their degree. Universities are trying to offer a “second option” by allowing students without the COVID-19 vaccine to attend online classes. Well, certain students are not able to utilize the second option as a large portion of scholarships are not offered online. However, there are certain establishments that are not allowing this option. This is causing students to transfer schools or drop out overall.
The New York State Board of Health says, it takes approximately 10-15 years of research before a vaccine should be made available to general public. Weird how after a couple months the COVID-19 Vaccine is not only administered to the general public, but being REQUIRED by Universities.
Not only is this vaccine requirement unconstitutional, it is violating our basic human rights and ruining our future generations. There is a lot of work that needs to be done in order to demonstrate the severity of the decision these Universities and Government Officials are making.
I am an undergraduate student being deprived of my education, my athlete eligibility, and the opportunity to further my career fully. Now is the time for students to stand together and put an end to this.
